The windstorms that swept across parts of the Upper East and North East Regions in May 2026 left thousands of households with partially or completely damaged homes and disrupted livelihoods. In response, NABOCADO is implementing the Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance for Windstorm-Affected Victims Project, funded by Catholic Relief Services West Africa Regional Office under the Empowering Partner Organizations Working in Emergency Response (EMPOWER) Programme, coordinated by Caritas Ghana with technical assistance from CRS Ghana.
On 23 and 24 July, NABOCADO met key stakeholders from the Bawku West, Nabdam, Talensi, Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri and East Mamprusi districts, including staff of the Municipal and District Assemblies, NADMO and the Departments of Community Development and Social Welfare, to discuss the response and strengthen coordination ahead of implementation.
From climbing hills to crossing rivers, NABOCADO’s Multi-Sectoral Emergency Response team then completed community entry and sensitisation in about 40 communities across the five districts. The sessions introduced the project, explained how beneficiaries would be selected and reinforced transparency, accountability and community participation.
From 4 to 8 August, registration teams registered eligible households through a transparent, community-based verification process, working closely with community leaders, Assembly Members, NADMO and the Departments of Social Welfare and Community Development to ensure fairness, accountability and inclusion. In all, 478 of the most vulnerable windstorm-affected households will each receive GHS 1,946 to meet their most urgent recovery needs and rebuild their lives with dignity.
We thank the Municipal and District Assemblies, NADMO Ghana, the Departments of Social Welfare and Community Development, parish structures, Assembly Members, traditional authorities and community leaders for their warm reception and collaboration.
