Rebuilding Lives with Dignity: What We Heard After the Windstorm Response

September 16, 2026  ·  Justice, Peace & Humanitarian Response

On the 1st of September, the NABOCADO field team returned to communities and households supported under the Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance for Windstorm-Affected Victims in the Upper East and North East Regions Project to conduct a Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM) exercise.

The findings were both inspiring and fulfilling.

Through support from the Catholic Relief Services Africa - West Africa Regional Office, 479 households across 40 communities in 5 districts received GHS 1,946 each to help them recover following the devastating May 2026 windstorms.

What stood out was the freedom the cash assistance gave families to respond to their most pressing needs according to their own priorities and with dignity.

During our visits, beneficiaries were excited to share how they had used the support. From investing in livestock and reroofing damaged structures to repaying loans and purchasing essential household items.

These stories remind us that humanitarian assistance is not only about what is delivered but also about giving affected families the choice and agency to determine what recovery means for them.

At NABOCADO, we are grateful to have walked alongside these families during a difficult period and to have contributed to their recovery.

Our appreciation to CRS Ghana, CARITAS GHANA, NADMO Ghana, traditional leaders, district assemblies, and the communities for the partnership and cooperation throughout the response.
