NABOCADO/CRS supports Windstorm-Affected Households in Upper East and North East regions

September 02, 2026  ·  Justice, Peace & Humanitarian Response

When the windstorms struck communities across the Upper East and North East Regions in May 2026, families lost more than roofs and property. Many lost essential household items, productive assets and the stability they depended on.

After weeks of community engagement, sensitization, and beneficiary registration, NABOCADO has completed the distribution of multi-purpose cash assistance to windstorm-affected households across the two regions of Ghana.

From 19th to 20th August 2026, five field teams reached 40 communities across five districts (Bawku West, Nabdam, Talensi, East Mamprusi and Bunpkurugu-Nakpanduri), delivering 1,946 Ghana cedis in cash assistance to some of the households hardest hit by the devastating windstorms of May 2026.

For families whose homes, livelihoods, and essential belongings were damaged, the assistance provides an opportunity to address their most urgent needs on their own terms and with dignity.

The distribution forms part of the Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance for Windstorm-Affected Victims in the Upper East and North East Regions Project, funded by the Catholic Relief Services Africa (CRS) West Africa Regional Office through the EMPOWER Programme, in partnership with CARITAS GHANA, with technical support from CRS Ghana.

Beyond the distribution itself, the response demonstrates the value of coordinated humanitarian action, bringing together communities, District Assemblies, humanitarian partners like NADMO and our field teams to ensure assistance reaches people most affected by the disaster in a timely, accountable and dignified manner.

NABOCADO is grateful to all our partners, especially the communities we serve, for their cooperation during this exercise.
