INPEACE Begins Mediation in Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri Conflicts

March 12, 2026  ·  Justice, Peace & Humanitarian Response

In 2025, the Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri District recorded two major violent conflicts in Ngamh-Gberuk and Naniik, largely linked to land and chieftaincy disputes.
The Ngamah–Gberuk conflict, involving the Dunglaar, Nandook, and Maan clans, resulted in significant destruction of property, displacement and deaths.

Through the INPEACE Project, funded by Misereor, the Justice, Peace and Humanitarian Programmes Directorate of NABOCADO has initiated structured mediation processes, holding caucus dialogue meetings with each of the affected clans.

These engagements held with assistance from the District Security Council and Parish Priests for the area, marking a critical step towards enabling displaced families to safely return home and resume their livelihoods, particularly as the farming season approaches.

The outcomes from the first round of engagements are encouraging as the groups demonstrated openness and a strong desire to find a lasting and peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The INPEACE Project continues to contribute to its core goal:
“Reducing violent conflicts in the Diocese and ensuring co-existence in a peaceful environment.”
