Earth Day 2026: Gundoug Farmers Celebrate Indigenous Knowledge and Innovation

April 22, 2026  ·  Livelihood & Agriculture

On Tuesday, Farmers under NABOCADO’s SCRAS Project in the Gundoug community (Nabdam District) gathered with calabashes of seeds, self-made local innovations, and the confidence of people who know their land intimately. What unfolded was more than an interaction, it was a celebration of indigenous knowledge, innovation, and hope in the face of climate change.

Together with our partners from The Food Discourse led by Gloria Agyare, who are collaborating with NABOCADO for this year’s Earth Day activities in the Upper East region, we witnessed farmers proudly displaying Indigenous seeds, Local innovations, storage methods and Agro-ecology methods supported under the SCRAS Project funded by Misereor of germany.

From farmer to farmer, questions flowed, stories were exchanged, and laughter filled the compound. Under this year’s Earth Day theme “Our Power, Our Planet”, the farmers made it clear:
Their power is knowledge.
Their planet is the land they lovingly protect.
