We are thrilled to share that the Bibukim and Binagam clans of Gbingbani have set aside their differences, marking a significant step towards peaceful coexistence in the area.
After months of violent conflict since March 2024 over the enskinment of a Youth Chief (Ninchinaba), which resulted in loss of life, destruction of homes and property, closure of schools and market, and the displacement of residents from both factions, the two clans have come together in a spirit of unity.
Accompanied by their enthusiastic members, they joyfully performed a customary ‘blood burial’ ceremony. This powerful ritual is a traditional conflict resolution mechanism which symbolises the end of bloodshed and a commitment to never engage in actions that can spill blood.
This momentous occasion was made possible through the contributory efforts of various stakeholders, including traditional and local government authorities, facilitated by NABOCADO under the INPEACE project, sponsored by Misereor. We are proud to have played a role in reaching this important milestone.
We applaud the commitment and resilience of the people towards peace. We hope that this day marks the beginning of a journey towards lasting peace and prosperity, not only in the Gbingbani community but, by extension, the North East Region as a whole.
