CHILD Project Stakeholders Meet to Improve Child Healthcare in Refugee-Host Communities

October 26, 2026  ·  Health

What does it take to ensure that every child under five receives quality healthcare when they need it most?

For children in refugee-host communities in the Upper East Region, the answer goes beyond access to a health facility. It also means having the right equipment, adequate health workers, appropriate infrastructure and services that respond to their needs.

On Friday, 23 October 2026, NABOCADO, through the Collaborative Child Health Initiative for Life-Saving and Development (CHILD) Project funded by Die Sternsinger of Germany, convened stakeholders to examine progress, identify gaps and explore practical solutions to improve healthcare for children under five.

The engagement brought together district assembly leaders, health directors, community and facility health workers, civil society organisations, the media and selected community representatives from the Bawku West, Binduri and Nabdam districts where the project is being implemented.

Discussions focused on taking stock of the project's achievements, identifying bottlenecks affecting the delivery of child health services across seven refugee-host communities, and developing an advocacy strategy to address the challenges.

From health worker availability and service delivery to infrastructure and access, participants highlighted district-specific challenges requiring coordinated action.

The next step is to translate identified challenges and proposed solutions into clear advocacy priorities and follow-up actions that NABOCADO will use to engage relevant duty-bearers and partners on the improvements needed to strengthen paediatric healthcare services.
