Food Security Project

Food Security Project

The Food Security Project aimed to improve child nutrition and protection for holistic early childhood development: better nutrition for children, and children protected from abuse and harm.

The project worked through women, community leaders and local authorities. It supported women with solar-powered boreholes and fenced gardens so they could grow vegetables and orange-flesh sweet potatoes (OFSP) all year round, for their children and families to eat.

It built on an earlier phase, the Integrated Food and Nutrition Security (IFAN) Project, also funded by Kindermissionswerk.

Funder: Kindermissionswerk ‘Die Sternsinger’, Germany
Implementation period: January 2021 – December 2023
Districts: Bongo, Builsa North, Builsa South, Kassena-Nankana West, Nabdam, Talensi and West Mamprusi

Read the story of Kamoroa Mama Peace, a vegetable farmer in Bandema who grew her family’s food in one of the project’s gardens.
