Diana Dittoh is a smallholder farmer from Gondoug in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region. She is showing how sustainable agriculture practices can make farmers more resilient to climate change.
With support from the SCRAS Project, funded by Misereor of Germany and implemented by NABOCADO in 24 communities across the Upper East and North East Regions, Diana applied composting and mulching on her maize and millet farms this season. She reports that mulching has significantly reduced weeds, helped the soil keep its moisture and made her crops resilient against irregular rainfall, while the compost has given her a sustainable alternative to expensive chemical fertiliser.
Guided by NABOCADO field officer Charles Asaah, and supported by her husband, Diana has become a knowledge-sharing point for farmers in her community.
Her story reflects the aim of the SCRAS Project: more farmers adopting sustainable practices that build resilience, improve food security and support rural livelihoods, in line with SDG 2, Zero Hunger.
