About Us

The Livelihood and Agriculture Programme (LAP) is a key sector within the Human Development Office of the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocesan Development Organisation (NABOCADO). We are dedicated to implementing impactful projects that enhance food and nutrition security while significantly improving household incomes across our operational areas.

Programme Offices & Centres

Main Programme Office:

Located within the Catholic Bishop Secretariat, housing NABOCADO. The director of LAP supervises operations at the Farmer Training Centre and the NABOCADO Bongo Centre from this office.

Farmer Training Centre (FTC) NABOCADO Bongo Centre Institute for Sustainable Farming (ISF)
Located in Pusu-Namango since 2002. Responsible for field-level implementation in West & East Mamprusi (North East Region), and Talensi & Nabdam (Upper East Region). FOCUS: Integrated village development and internal revenue generation. Established in 1983 at Bongo Anafubisi. Serves Bongo, Kassena Nankana West, Builsa South, Tempane, and Builsa North. FOCUS: Agroforestry, catfish production, local fowl, and vegetable production. Established in 2024 with KLB Germany. Professional training hub for Tamale Ecclesiastical Province. FOCUS: Farming as a business (Fish, pigs, etc.). Located at the FTC premises in Pusu-Namango.

HAPPY Program Mastercard Foundation / CRS Harnessing Agricultural Productivity for Youth. Goal: Create 19,325 dignified jobs in rice, soybean, tomato, and poultry value chains ($28M projected import savings).
Feed the Future USAID (Systems Strengthening) Advancing well-being of Women of Reproductive Age (WRA) and Children Under 5 (CU5) through nutrition-sensitive interventions in 40 communities.
PROSSFA KLB Germany Professionalisation of Small-Scale Farmers. Focus on youth residential training, catfish production, and pig farming skills through south-south cooperation.
SOLVE Project US Embassy (Julia Taf Grant) Solar for Organic Local Vegetables. Improving food/nutrition security and income for asylum seekers in Tarikom settlement area (Bawku West).
Dry Season Gardening Madison Diocese Provided solar-powered boreholes to rural women for year-round cultivation, improving nutrition security and household income during dry seasons.

Core Intervention Areas

Climate Adaptation: Facilitating Community Adaptation Action Plans (CAAPs) and promoting ecologically friendly agricultural practices to build resilience.
Youth Empowerment: Creating dignified jobs through value chain investments in rice, soybeans, and poultry via the HAPPY program and ISF training centres.
Financial Inclusion: Implementing the Savings and Internal Lending Concept (SILC) as a vehicle for asset building and enterprise development, specifically for women and youth.
Humanitarian Support: Providing sustainable food solutions (SOLVE project) and health/protection services for asylum seekers and displaced populations.
