Who We Are

The Health Programmes Directorate is part of Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocesan Development Organisation (NABOCADO), a faith-based non-profit organization with decades of proven experience implementing innovative health initiatives for underserved and vulnerable populations. We serve 26 parishes and rectorates across 20 districts/municipalities in Ghana's Upper East (15 districts) and North East (5 districts) regions, covering a total land area of 31,068 sq km. To date, we have positively impacted 531,524 persons through our comprehensive health programming.

Tarikom Refugee Project

UNHCR/Caritas $299,071.93 Primary healthcare screening and access; 735 individuals (471 females, 264 males) enrolled onto NHIS; 1,154 medical consultations; 29 referrals facilitated; 14 safe deliveries; 2 cesarean sections facilitated.

Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal & Child Health (RMNCH): Integrated management of childhood illness (IMCI), maternal health programming, natural family planning (SMART-Couples), newborn care, malnutrition mitigation through community and facility-based interventions
Nutrition & Food Security: Climate-resilient nutrition solutions (sack gardening), cooking demonstrations, growth monitoring and promotion, integrated community-based essential nutrition actions (ICENA)
Health Systems Strengthening: Capacity building for frontline health workers, health facility equipment provision, health infrastructure development across 13 diocesan facilities
WASH Programming: Access to safe drinking water, sanitation facility improvement, hygiene promotion, school health programming
Emergency & Humanitarian Response: COVID-19 response, refugee health services, displaced populations support, rapid deployment capacity
Community Engagement: Mother-to-Mother Support Groups, Community Health Volunteers, Community Health Action Plans, community-based pregnancy schools, community-based growth promotion and monitoring, home visits and defaulter tracing, partnership with traditional authorities
Malaria Control & School Health: Malaria prevention and treatment programming, comprehensive school health initiatives

Strategic Direction (2025–2029)

Vision: Improved health outcomes across the Upper East and North East Regions of Ghana with reduced preventable illness and death, contributing to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities)

Strategic Priorities:

  1. Access to Quality Healthcare: Expanding quality and affordable healthcare delivery through health system strengthening, construction of new health facilities and infrastructure enhancement in the existing health facilities.
  2. Maternal & Child Health: Improving maternal and child health and nutrition across all NABOCADO operational areas
  3. Water, Sanitation & Hygiene: Ensuring access to potable water and promoting personal and environmental hygiene
  4. Mental Health and Disability: Increased care and support for persons with mental health and disability
  5. Health Governance: Promoting citizen participation in governance at all levels to enhance health delivery
